Employee Spotlight: Kurt Gilmore

Kurt Gilmore

Job title:

Quality Control Inspector

Years at ABW:

3 years, 4 months

What do you enjoy about your job?

Learning new things.

I came to ABW with no QC background. I spent 14 years in retail management and really needed a change. I came to ABW in the beginning so I could work and then find my new career but I ended up finding it here.

I was intrigued by QC and wanted to know as much as I could. Now I’m collecting hours to become a level two in Magnetic Particle, Die Penetrant, Helium Leak and Visual Inspection.

Do you have a favorite movie and/or TV show?

Movie has to be a close tie with “Good Morning Vietnam” and “Waterboy.” I prefer to laugh when it comes to a movie. As for TV, I watch crime/law type stuff—Law and Order, Criminal Minds, JAG, etc.

What music do you like?

Anything not too slow—rock, country—it really doesn’t matter. As long as I can understand the words and it doesn’t put me to sleep!

Do you support a particular sports team?

The Seahawks (most of the time/when they don’t forget to pack their game).  I’ve also always been a Cincinnati Reds fan. The only sports I play now are golf and bowling.

If I’m not at work, I’m probably...…

with my family.  Three kids—two in high school—it always seems there’s something going on.

I just can’t live without my...…

phone. Seems we get so attached—calendar, contacts, email. It’s nice to leave it behind sometimes, but how did we live before them?

Something you may not know about me is...…

I’ve been bowling for years and this month I just bowled my sixth perfect 300 game.

My favorite ice cream flavour is…

anything with chocolate. Toss in some peanut butter if you want but don’t forget the chocolate.

If I had a time machine for a day, I would...…

go watch the greats, Babe Ruth, Micky Mantle, etc. play baseball at the original Yankee stadium.

The car I learned to drive on was...

Mom had one of those early 80s conversion vans and when you’re learning to drive they sure seem huge. Dad had a full size pickup with side pipes, so it wasn’t much easier.

The best present that I’ve ever received was...…

my first car, a 1965 Chevy Malibu Chevelle.
